This quote reminded me of what I see with so many couples who are simply a few misperceptions and misunderstandings away from each other…
If you’re both motivated to improve your relationship and you just can’t seem to reach each other, you’re both struggling, and you are trapped in the prison of your nightmarish thoughts and feelings. It’s not a good place to be.
It can be terrifying to get out of your cage and step out onto the edge of the cliff to let your partner in because your nightmarish thoughts and fears FEEL like the truth and tell you IT IS DANGEROUS to risk letting your partner in.
When the truth is revealed, when you are brave enough to speak yours and allow theirs, more often than not it is a relief more than anything (if you’re both motivated to reach each other).
If you’ve been missing each other for awhile, they may be skeptical to believe you when you do open up. Keep sharing your truth: that your relationship matters; that your partner matters. It’s how we are all wired, to matter to each other!
I bet you’d welcome their truth, too, so be brave enough to allow it when it’s shared, even if you find yourself skeptical too.
The view is much better when you take the risk!

1st post on the gram in years right here…and if I told you how long it took me to figure out how to do this again you’d laugh at me!! And quite honestly I do feel a little pathetic and inept with the socials 🤪

Yet so many of us (self-included - especially with my kid shopping today) get trapped in a hall of negative circus like mirrors with each other — focusing on, bringing out and sometimes CREATING the worst. (You should have seen her tearing through the store). .
It can take more of a conscious effort, going against the grain, a risk and even vulnerability to do what the quote says but we need to.

There has never been a time I’ve done it and regretted it, so it’s always something I revisit sometimes and do.

Knowing this, and with the intention of starting my weekends the way I want to, this spring I made a commitment to getting up at 5 every Saturday to run 10 miles minimum (usually not more than that).

Once a week, this is 1.5 hours or so just for me, alone, during one of the most beautiful parts of the day, in one of the most beautiful parts of the world.

I’ve gotten this done 11 out of 15 times since I’ve started. That’s 73% - not bad!! Feels so good every time (maybe not the whole time, but when I’m done...!).
.
Moral of the story:

Over 2 months ago, my daughter went to a Princess Tea party, it was the best day of her life. .
When I picked her up from school yesterday, her teacher informed me that she has convinced the class to have a Princess Tea party.

Me: “What?! How?”

Teacher: “She has been talking about this nonstop, every day, for 2 weeks, as if it is happening, no matter what. So, I finally decided, it has to happen.”

I am impressed, and am following her lead. .
It can be frustrating as a parent of a toddler to have her so skilled at getting what she wants, but I will do my best to nurture that — clearly her teacher is, too!

Get clarity on your vision and see it so clearly that it becomes reality, wear down everything around you with that certainty, and everything will assist in manifesting it.

A few short years ago I never would have imagined driving down an old country road, where turkeys stop traffic, looking for a home to buy with 2 kids in the back and a man I loved by my side.
.
Before kids, we were both in the rat race, up and out spending hours a week on the subway, commuting to jobs…
.
I remember wondering, “what would it be like to live in nature, close to the mountains, close to the ocean, and not too far from a city…”
.
I doubted we could pull it off.
.
All I knew (before becoming my own boss) was rushing to jobs I felt mediocre about and giving what felt like most if not all of myself to them.
.
Yet we were desperately tired of circling the streets for parking (and refused to spend hundreds a month for a spot).
.
We were tired of the crowds. The nightmare of grocery shopping.
.
Our son didn’t even enjoy Central Park the time we took him there (I don’t know what was wrong with him, it is still one of my favorite places on earth).
.
And here we are, a few years later, starting 2018 with some dreams realized that felt once unbelievable to me, and more to run after.
.
This year and forever more I keep my commitment to enjoying the unfolding, to not resisting, to letting go, to allowing all the good that is here in front of me and so much more of it that’s on its way.
.
I hope you do the same!

And while I cherish my alone time, this process is best enjoyed with good company.
